Elder Abuse Crimes
At Leslie Legal Group, my criminal defense lawyers have helped many clients fight elder abuse charges. Elder abuse charges can stem from physical abuse, financial abuse and or neglect.
Elder abuse allegations usually focus on caregivers and or family members who deprive or injure the alleged victim physically. However, more common recently, elder abuse allegations are focusing on financial abuse charges. This is when a care giver or family member takes advantage of an ailing loved one and improperly obtains and uses ATM cards, checking and saving account information and or gets them to sign a power of attorney.
In some cases, the alleged exploitation has been so extensive that the elder person has actually signed over their home and other major assets to the client. These cases are emotionally charged and commonly involve disputed facts and promises between or among siblings of the elder person. Accordingly, a thorough investigation must be made into the dynamics of the family.
If you are contacted by law enforcement as the subject of an elder abuse investigation, please invoke your right to remain silent and do not provide a statement to law enforcement.
